About
January 25, 2010
Dear Friends, Leaders, and Teammates,
I am honored to serve as the 2010 New Mexico Christian Convention president. This year’s event, a leadership conference, will be held in Albuquerque at First Christian Church. The convention will begin on Friday evening, April 16th at 7:30 p.m. and will continue through Saturday afternoon. We will end at 3.
I am excited to announce that our Convention is breaking new ground this year by transitioning to a Leadership Conference. What that means simply is that we are focusing our efforts more intensely.
Focus
Our focus will be on encouraging and equipping leaders and emerging leaders. This year’s conference will be devoted to TEAM BUILDING as reflected in our theme:
Building Teams Today for the Church of Tomorrow
What do we mean when we say “leaders”?
Leaders include all who lead in any area of ministry, outreach, or administration. Emerging leaders are those who are exploring leadership possibilities or moving into some kind of leadership function.
Purpose of the 2010 Event
Our aim is simple:
We want to serve Christian Churches and Churches of Christ in New Mexico by equipping leaders and emerging leaders in those churches to develop stronger networks regionally and increasing skills in teambuilding at a local church level.
The truth is, leading on any level is hard and often frustrating work. The Apostle Paul told the Galatians that leading, mentoring, and growing disciples was like having a baby (Galatians 4:19). That means it is hard and it hurts. Teamwork is the plan Jesus gave us to get the job done (Ephesians 4:1-16), and without it the world will not see Him (John 17: 20-24).
Our Commitment
Every session and workshop will be devoted to leading through effective team building.
Format/Schedule
Our format will not be radically different from previous years. Our schedule will be similar to what we have experienced in the past with main sessions and workshops. There will be a: child care and a childrens ministry (nursery through 5th grade), and a teen convention.
Featured Speaker
Our Featured Speaker is Matt Proctor, President of Ozark Christian College in Joplin Missouri. Matt is a successful team builder and one of the premier preachers in our fellowship of churches. Matt will preach, talk, educate, encourage, and inspire us toward greater effectiveness in our team building.
Worship and Special Music
Adam Ormord from Academy Christian Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado will lead our times of worship and special music. Adam is a gifted worship leader, and I’m looking forward to rich times of praise that will open our hearts to the work the Spirit of God will be ready to do among us.
Special Guest
A special guest who will be with us is Harry Gill from the Virginia Evangelizing Fellowship (VEF) also known as Virginia Vision in Richmond, Virginia. Harry is a veteran pastor, having ministered in churches with attendances ranging from less than 100 to 1000 plus, and a seasoned team builder who now works with Virginia Vision to connect and coach pastors. Harry will speak at our Friday evening Pastors’ and Wives’ banquet and do two workshops for pastors on Saturday:
- A workshop dealing with fusion groups for pastors (that’s fusion not confusion)
- A workshop dealing with ongoing coaching for pastors.
Pastors’ and Wives’ Banquet
We are sponsoring a free banquet on Friday evening at 5:30 for Pastors and their wives at Sadie’s of New Mexico, and I40 by Hotel Circle, where Harry Gill will speak to us.
